Queens Street, Portsmouth

Project Profile

Queens Street, Portsmouth

Client: Ardmore Group
Architect: David Richmond & Partners
Structural Engineer: Cameron Taylor
Building Services Engineer: Whitecode Design Associates

Queen Street Portsmouth is part of a new wave of very large projects currently being constructed by Ardmore Construction, with sleek, stylish and award winning architecture. The project comprises the construction of 569 apartments, including bright new studios, one, two and three bedroomed apartments, duplexes and penthouses, in the centre of the widespread regeneration of Portsmouth, one of the South’s most vibrant, waterside cities.

There are 16 buildings of up to seven storeys high arranged around the perimeter of the site, plus a landmark tower 22 storeys high. A two storey reinforced concrete car park covers most of the site area. The car park will be entered at ground level and there will be a single storey above this. The roof of the car park in the centre of the development is used to support landscaped gardens. Irrigation to the roof top garden is supplemented by a grey water supply, using recovered rain water, stored in a dedicated plant room to supply water in dry periods.

Retail units occupy the ground floor of some of the buildings. They will be constructed to shell and core standards with capped Capabilities, ready for fit out by the individual store occupants.

The buildings are being constructed of reinforced concrete of pile foundations. The main blocks will have brick and rendered facades with aluminium rain screen to the tower.

Construction Value: £63,000,000
Completion: Late 2008
