Whitecode Consulting presented with time-sensitive festive project
02 Dec 2025
Whitecode Consulting often works far and wide, but this request took its experienced team to the far reaches of the globe. Overcoming sub-zero temperatures and an incredibly tight deadline, the MEP design and sustainability consultants played a pivotal role in streamlining present production and delivery at Santa’s Workshop – ensuring no deserving name on Father Christmas’ ‘Nice List’ will go without.
While Saint Nick’s task of delivering presents may only see him working one night a year, toy and present manufacture require a 364-day production schedule – exacerbating the importance of trusted and reliable mechanical, electrical and plumbing services that keep production on schedule in such a time-sensitive environment.
So, who did Father Christmas call when he needed to upgrade the M&E services in his workshop? The experienced specialists at Whitecode Consulting, that’s who.
With the North Pole seeing 24 hours of daylight each day for six months and then continuous darkness for the rest of the year, the workshop required effective, reactive and automated lighting systems to provide comfortable illumination when in use and then automatically shut off when the elves take well-deserved breaks.
Whitecode Consulting specified energy efficient LED sensors with motion sensors, smart enough to only provide effective lighting when working conditions and external environments required it. Doing so saved the workshop significant expenditure on lighting bills, a vital reduction given even Santa is facing a cost-of-living crisis.
Alongside the provision of comfortable and automated lighting, the sustainability and energy efficiency specialists at Whitecode Consulting designed a temperature-controlled heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system to keep the workshop comfortable, productive and cosy throughout the year.
Of course, with toy production truly a 24/7 task every day but one each year, ineffective MEP services can have catastrophic consequences for Father Christmas’ delivery targets.
Offering comprehensive support and guidance, Whitecode Consulting designed reliable HV and LV distribution, in addition to full cable containment and network loading. Consequently, the vital conveyor belts, testing facilities, inventory management systems and other electrical equipment were able to run efficiently – even with demand at its highest.
Like many business owners across the UK and the rest of the world, Father Christmas was keen to reduce his carbon footprint. With that in mind, Whitecode Consulting designed a greywater recycling system to capture meltwater from roofs and pathways. To reduce freshwater demand from nearby rivers and lakes and reliance on mains water, the meltwater was filtered and reused for reindeer stables and landscaping.
Kris Kringle, Head of Present Production and Delivery, highlighted Whitecode Consulting’s ability to overcome any challenges and sleigh difficult tasks. He said: “We were absolutely thrilled with Whitecode Consulting’s expertise and drive to help us expedite the toy production and delivery process at such a busy time. With the workshop in use throughout the year, Whitecode’s team had to work around our elves – but did so without causing any significant disruption.
“Thanks to their comprehensive MEP design solutions and the incorporation of network loading and cable containment processes, our conveyor belts, testing facilities and essential equipment remained fully operational all year round.
“While we’re used to the sub-zero temperatures here, their team had their work cut out for them. But they did a remarkable job and never lost their Christmas spirit. I’m sure the regular supply of cocoa and hot chocolate helped though!
“Everyone at Whitecode Consulting is definitely on my nice list!”
In that case, this will be the first year that Alex isn’t on the naughty list!
The project was completed ahead of schedule, ensuring Father Christmas will be able to depart the North Pole on time and deliver all toys and presents to deserving recipients as required.
