Whitecode Consulting’s Alex Hill to shine spotlight on importance of early MEP design at Building Services Forum

11 Sep 2025

As a major proponent of companies adopting a holistic building design approach to help drive the UK’s journey towards net zero by 2050, Whitecode Consulting Managing Director, Alex Hill, is proud to be raising awareness on the importance of early MEP design and collaboration during retrofit projects at the upcoming Building Services Forum.

Taking place on Wednesday 24th September, the Building Services Forum will be held at the Building Centre in London. With a wide-ranging programme of speakers, including Alex, the event will focus on the role of retrofit, renewables, AI, and other new technologies in the built environment.

Speaking at 11.30am, Alex will be assessing the impact that increased electrification of heating systems and a sharp rise in electric vehicle charging is having on the demands on the National Grid before highlighting the important role retrofitting can play in the decarbonisation of the UK’s existing building stock.

A key theme throughout the talk will be the vital need to incorporate MEP design early and enable full collaboration and cohesiveness between all involved in a retrofit project. Doing so can ensure buildings are effectively futureproofed and help drive the UK’s journey towards net zero by 2050.

Alongside a hotly-anticipated panel debate and a myriad of informative technical briefings, the event will offer plenty of crucial networking opportunities – with a whole host of decision makers, industry leaders and like-minded professionals expected to be in attendance.

Looking forward to the event, Alex highlighted the importance of educating those inside and outside the industry about the increased demand caused by electrification of heating systems and the rapid rise in electric vehicle charging across the UK. He also underlined the need to change mindsets around the important role retrofitting can play in the decarbonisation of the UK building stock.

He said: “I’m immensely proud to be speaking at the upcoming Building Services Forum. While the increased focus on carbon footprints and sustainability is undoubtedly a positive, we need to be careful that the increased electrification isn’t adding a substantial challenge to the National Grid, given that national consumption is expected to double by 2050.

“Having the chance to highlight the importance of retrofitting and futureproofing the existing UK building stock, especially with the government’s net zero target in mind, is absolutely crucial and a task I don’t take lightly.

“Besides my presentation, the programme features a multitude of other insightful discussions and technical briefings on a wide range of industry-critical topics, so it’s set to be an incredibly worthwhile event for those in attendance. I’m really looking forward to it.”
