WHITECODE RECEIVES PLANET MARK ACCREDITATION

18 Jan 2023

Whitecode Consulting is pleased to announce that it has received its Planet Mark certification for a second year, demonstrating the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) and Building Sustainability consultancy’s efforts to minimise its carbon footprint.

Planet Mark is a certification that recognises continuous improvement, encourages action and builds an empowered community of like-minded individuals who make a world of difference. The construction industry is responsible for approximately 11% of global carbon emissions, making sustainability a concern for the sector. As a provider of complete mechanical and electrical design, sustainable design consultancy and inspection services for residential and commercial developments throughout the UK, Whitecode is dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of its business operations.

Throughout a reporting period from April 2021 to March 2022, Whitecode’s Planet Mark certificate shows that the company’s carbon footprint, from both its UK and South Africa offices, has achieved a 5.7% reduction in carbon. This is equivalent to a 13.4% reduction per employee (from the previous year).

The Planet Mark accreditation helps businesses to positively transform society, the environment and the economy through measurement of their carbon and social data. Planet Mark does this using a three-step process of measurement, engagement and communication. A business’ commitment to progress is established by measuring its impact, engaging with its stakeholders on the process, allowing them to communicate their development with confidence.

The Planet Mark accreditation also gives businesses the opportunity to strengthen their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategies and to set credible net zero carbon targets that align with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)’s Net-Zero Corporate Standards. Under Planet Mark certification Whitecode has committed to making a year-on-year reduction and its future goal is to reduce its carbon footprint by 5% annually.

Commenting on the certification, Ellen Huelin, Associate Director at Whitecode, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and we look for further ways to minimise our carbon impact. Companies of our size are not legally required to report their carbon footprint but as an ethical business we think it is important to demonstrate that we are on the pathway to Net Zero and at our current rate, look to achieve Net Zero by 2042.”
