This is the latest phase of the landmark regeneration programme within Wandsworth, comprising of 386(No.) 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments within 7(No.) blocks, a health centre, pavilion, commercial and retail units, all set around a picturesque garden square.

Whitecode Consulting's full MEPH (Mechanical, Electrical and Public Heath) designs, sustainability services and assessments have paved the way for the successful delivery of a thermally-efficient, low-carbon mixed-used scheme within the landmark regeneration programme, Battersea Power Station.

Phase 4A of the Battersea Power Station development comprises around 386 one, two and three-bedroom apartments over seven blocks, of which a percentage is affordable housing. The mixed-used scheme also contains an NHS medical centre, 12,000 sqft of flexible workspaces for local entrepreneurs, and a picturesque garden square.

The client, contractor Ardmore Construction, enlisted Whitecode to deliver 2D and 3D concept drawings for RIBA Stage 4b and construction drawings for RIBA Stage 5. Whitecode also redesigned elements of Stage 3 to offer the client significant cost savings over a two-phase delivery. On all of these stages Whitecode drew on its technical excellence and diligence to ensure the MEPH designs met the client’s strict brief.

To ensure the designs translated to site, Whitecode performed bespoke first and second fix inspections alongside a resident onsite engineer, further ensuring that quality remained uncompromised across the 4A phase of the Battersea Power Station development.

As well as delivering the MEPH designs Whitecode offered its sustainability consultancy services. These services ensured the scheme would meet with Part L regulations and perform sustainably and efficiently once in use. Dynamic thermal simulations were part of this service, and were included so that the building would not overheat and compromise residents’ comfort. The company also worked with an energy consultant to ascertain the buildings’ projected energy outputs, and completed SAP and EPC calculations, and CfSH and BREEAM assessments.

Whitecode also completed flue dilution analysis to ensure sufficient fresh air could enter into the occupied spaces, and subsequently comply with clean air and environmental policies.

Set to be completed in 2022 at an estimated value of £120m, phase 4A of the Battersea Power Station development will offer its inhabitants and visitors stunning accommodation and services within one of the most ambitious regenerations the UK has ever seen.
